How is the closet shelving mounted?

Pine - Our John Louis Home systems are "off the floor" mounting systems. We utilize three universal bracket types that are secured onto the walls.  The shelves are then locked into the brackets.  Since the shelving covers the majority of the brackets, minimal hardware is in view.  Because the closet system is raised, floor space is open and clear of any obstructions.

Hardwood - Our hardwood systems can either be "off the floor" or rest on the floor, depending on your desire or need. There is no metal hardware with these systems. All of the supports are made of Ash Shelving connects directly to other shelving, creating an "all wood" look.

What if my cut measurement is located in the middle of a shelf slat?

Pine -There are two ways to handle this.  One - The size of the shelf end bracket allows for short cuts. Therefore you may cut at the nearest slat side of your measurement.  Two - Make your cut using a fine-toothed straight handsaw.  Place the cut slat side facing the sidewall.

Hardwood - You may cut your shelf in between the slats or directly through a slat.

NOTE: J-Hooks are used only on the pine (JLH) systems. Follow the normal installation instructions BUT place the metal J-Hook FLUSH with the front of the wood angle bracket.  Do NOT measure back 3 inches from the front.  Placing the J-Hook flush to front enables adequate space for clothing.

Will moisture have an effect?

To prevent warping, the manufacturers use only kiln dried wood. The wood is treated and the multi-layered finish process blocks moisture intake. As with any natural product, warping can occur when used in areas that contain overly excessive amounts of moisture, such as a garage or basement. Having said that, we have never personally known the wood to warp.
